Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology Exchange Program

Graduate student at TUAT presents her research at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology

Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology and Cornell University have worked together the last decade to provide exchange opportunites for graduate students at TUAT.

In addition to semester and year-long exchanges, TUAT organizes yearly trips to Cornell University and Technische Universität München in Munich Germany. This trips are part of an international program for graduate students in science and technology.

In the fall of 2017, I volunteered at Cornell to participate in the exchange. Students from TUAT spent several weeks at Cornell participating in a workshop of formal debate.

In the spring of 2018, I travel to Tokyo to visit TUAT. Together, a group of PhD students from Cornell and TUAT met to plan the next workshop at Cornell. We decided to hold a public speaking engagement. Cornell students met with many faculty and students at TUAT.

In the fall of 2018, I hosted the TUAT students at Cornell. The participates presented speeches regarding the future of science and research to members of the public. It was a huge success! This event was a great opportunity to engage with the public on science topics as well as practice for the students on science communication.

Community members gathered to listen to the program present their scicom talks.

Collaboration with a local group called Science Cabaret allowed us to gather a rather large group of community members.

After practicing for 3 days, were presented our personal research and how we hope it will positively affect a changing world.

This program is continued by graduate students at Cornell and I’ve been able to participate on a limited volunteer basis in the last year.
